Artificial turf can create a defined green area where a natural lawn does not suit the intended use. The surface should be chosen with the base, drainage, edges and maintenance plan—not just the shade of green.

Begin with how the space will be used
A pet area, a decorative side yard and a family activity space create different requirements. Tell RLC about traffic, pets, shade, reflected sun and drainage. The finished surface needs a clear purpose and a boundary that connects naturally with the surrounding landscape.
Look beyond the showroom image
Compare a physical sample in your outdoor light. Fiber shape, mixed colors, pile height and backing influence appearance and feel. Do not choose by pile height alone or assume the softest sample will perform best for every use.
The base makes the surface work
Preparation establishes the grade and support below the turf. Drainage must lead somewhere appropriate; a permeable backing does not fix a trapped low spot underneath. Removal, base materials, compaction and any drainage adjustments should be described in the quote.
Seams and borders
Plan seam locations and secure perimeter details before installation. A transition to rock should contain the stone and secure the turf independently. Avoid loose edges, abrupt height changes or decorative drainage details that have no functional connection.
Heat and maintenance
Synthetic turf can become hot in direct sun. Consider shade and use during hot weather, and review product guidance for reflected heat. It still needs debris removal, brushing when appropriate and cleaning suited to the product. Pet use requires a cleaning plan; it is not a self-cleaning surface.
What changes the price
Irregular shapes, multiple seams, tight access, removal and extensive base correction affect the scope. Ask for product-specific care and warranty information. Compare complete installed proposals rather than a square-foot material price alone.
Common question
Does artificial turf mean no maintenance?
No. It reduces lawn mowing, but cleaning, debris removal and care of the surface and edges remain necessary.
