Where it fits
Place it in a bed large enough for a balanced canopy and maintenance access. Compare a single focal palm with a group before choosing quantity. Leave room for mature fronds and fruit to fall without interfering with a narrow walkway or pool.
Sizes and varieties
Single and grouped specimens differ in visual weight. Confirm trunk height, overall height and crown condition rather than assuming the gallon number explains the whole plant. It is a different species from a royal palm.
Care through the seasons
Direct irrigation to the root area and avoid unnecessary overhead wetting. Yellowing or spotting needs diagnosis; drainage and palm nutrition both matter. Protect the crown during installation and preserve healthy fronds during maintenance.
Placement mistakes to avoid
An exposed inland frost pocket or an area that stays wet is not a good place to promise a flawless tropical palm. Plan for its adult scale rather than the installation-day canopy.
Buying size is not finished size
15-gallon and larger containers, or specimens quoted by trunk and overall height. These are nursery formats to ask about, not a live stock list or a guaranteed height. Compare the actual canopy, root ball, cultivar and overall condition. Leave room for the mature plant, even when a new installation initially looks open.
Planning the installation
Measure the usable bed, including space around windows, paths, utilities and irrigation. Show RLC both a wide view and the details of the existing ground. Discuss removals, preparation, access and watering before choosing a quantity. A larger plant may give more presence on day one, but the right location and establishment care still determine the result.
What affects cost?
Relative starting plant tier: $$$. A tier compares material categories; it is not an installed price. Nursery size, fullness, quantity, delivery access, removals and irrigation changes can alter the quote. Compare the whole scope, including the selected variety and size.
Common question
Can it replace a royal palm in a small yard?
It can offer a different scale and texture, but it still needs mature crown room. Compare the species and site dimensions rather than using ‘smaller’ as the only selection rule.
