Gold Mound adds a bright yellow-green accent to the front or middle of a bed. It is most effective as a measured highlight against darker greenery rather than a color repeated without a plan.

Where it fits
Use in a few intentional groups to connect warm flowers or light architectural details. Make sure the plant has enough space to remain rounded. A bright plant beside every other bright plant can make a small landscape feel busy.
Sizes and varieties
Gold Mound is not the large purple-flowering standard duranta. Nursery substitutions should preserve the intended compact foliage role. Shade can make golden leaves appear greener.
Care through the seasons
Light shaping helps maintain fullness. Check moisture and exposure when foliage loses quality. Frost can damage the top growth, and a protected location improves the chance of a consistent appearance. Check the current UF/IFAS invasive assessment before selection; common landscape use does not mean a plant suits every setting. Keep fruit away from children and pets.
Placement mistakes to avoid
Do not choose it for a shaded bed if bright gold color is the main objective. Duranta fruit is not food; keep plant-chewing pets and children in mind.
Buying size is not finished size
Commonly 3-gallon; compare actual width and fullness. These are nursery formats to ask about, not a live stock list or a guaranteed height. Compare the actual canopy, root ball, cultivar and overall condition. Leave room for the mature plant, even when a new installation initially looks open.
Planning the installation
Measure the usable bed, including space around windows, paths, utilities and irrigation. Show RLC both a wide view and the details of the existing ground. Discuss removals, preparation, access and watering before choosing a quantity. A larger plant may give more presence on day one, but the right location and establishment care still determine the result.

Common question
Why has the foliage turned green?
Light level, new growth and the plant’s condition can affect color. Confirm the cultivar and exposure before assuming fertilizer will restore a yellow appearance.
