Florida’s cabbage palm gives a landscape a familiar native silhouette. It works best as a long-term vertical feature with room for a mature crown, not as a small ornamental squeezed into an entry bed.

Where it fits
Use in a broad lawn edge or deep planting bed where the crown has room and falling material can be managed. Compare its eventual height with the roofline and overhead utilities. A grouping should look intentional from the house and the street.
Sizes and varieties
A newly transplanted field-grown sabal can look very different from an established palm. Container-grown juveniles and trunked field-grown palms are not directly comparable by gallon size. Ask how height is being measured and what establishment appearance to expect.
Care through the seasons
The planting and watering plan is particularly important for field-grown stock. Protect the growing point, avoid trunk wounds and do not demand a tight ‘hurricane cut’ as routine maintenance. Nutrient concerns should be assessed with palm-specific guidance.
Placement mistakes to avoid
Keep clear of overhead lines and locations where a full crown cannot develop. Do not judge transplant success only by how many leaves are present on installation day.
Buying size is not finished size
Young container plants or field-grown palms specified by clear trunk or overall height. These are nursery formats to ask about, not a live stock list or a guaranteed height. Compare the actual canopy, root ball, cultivar and overall condition. Leave room for the mature plant, even when a new installation initially looks open.
Planning the installation
Measure the usable bed, including space around windows, paths, utilities and irrigation. Show RLC both a wide view and the details of the existing ground. Discuss removals, preparation, access and watering before choosing a quantity. A larger plant may give more presence on day one, but the right location and establishment care still determine the result.

Relative starting plant tier: $. A tier compares material categories; it is not an installed price. Nursery size, fullness, quantity, delivery access, removals and irrigation changes can alter the quote. Compare the whole scope, including the selected variety and size.
Common question
Why is the quoted height different from the total palm height?
Palm quotes may use clear trunk, wood height or overall height. Ask for the measurement definition and a photo of representative stock so you can compare like with like.
