How it reads in a landscape

The smaller stone texture can suit a defined accent bed or transition beside a hard surface. Keep the surrounding plant palette simple enough that the rock does not compete with every leaf pattern. A clean boundary is usually more important than a perfectly uniform stone color.

Compare it with pea gravel

Three-quarter-inch rock generally reads as more distinct individual stones. Pea gravel creates a finer surface and can move more readily. Compare samples together, since supplier naming and screening vary. Neither product should be chosen as a stand-alone cure for standing water.

Edge and surface levels

Plan the edge before delivery. Set the surface so it stays below the containment line and does not spill into sod or over a walkway. Protect access to valves and drains. Avoid abruptly filling a narrow strip so deep that it buries the neighboring plant crowns.

Preparing an existing bed

Remove weeds and evaluate old mulch, soil contamination and unwanted material. Decide what needs removal rather than mixing everything together. Correct grade issues first, then install the selected finish at a consistent planned depth.

Keep it looking intentional

Remove leaves and windblown debris before they work into the stone. Check where water enters the bed after a storm. Soil washing over the surface points to a grading or runoff issue, not simply a need for another load of rock.

No natural stone can promise that. Review a current sample; wet stones and fresh dust can also make the same batch look different.
